Scope: high-blast · Decision Record: Required: ADR 0029 amend (§2.1:68 rewritten in place with the old sentence quoted as provenance; §2.1 state-class rows for the intent, the committed name and pending; §2.2:211 restated as a collection invariant; the epic's row in the §5 decomposition table) · Decision Record impact: amends ADR 0029 · graduated from D#18594 ([GRADUATED_TO_TICKET] recorded in its body).

Problem scope

Neo.tab.Container selects with activeIndex_: a reactive config a provider can bind, a user can write back through twoWay, an activeIndexChange event, and a split between the public setter (intent) and _activeIndex (silent sync from truth). layout.Card#activeIndex_ and toolbar.Breadcrumb#activeKey_ are the same idiom. A dock Workspace has an active one-of-N — named perspectives — and selects it by calling a method, then rebuilds its switcher by hand.

The census at dev@28e56e1543 says why: the dock package carries 35 reactive configs, all on chrome and collaborators (Rail 8, RevealOverlay 5, DockSplitter 4 including dockZoneDocument_, RevealStateMachine 4, Preview 3, DropIndicators 3, and one each on TabContainer, Maximize, PerspectiveLibrary, TopologyLibrary), while the host Workspace.mjs has 3 reactive of ~27 config keys and holds its state in 12 class fields — dockModel = null among them. The chrome receives the committed document reactively; the host holds it as a field. Header truth became provider data with the header-state work; selection did not. Three consumers therefore hand-roll the same switcher: examples/dashboard/dock/MainContainer.mjs (a layoutCollection field, restorePerspective(layoutId), and syncPerspectiveToolbar() re-run on every re-projection), examples/dashboard/crossWindow/DemoBWorkspace.mjs (collectionChange → rebuild), and apps/workstation (the controller reads topologyCollection.activeLayoutId by hand; its topology bar binding the Group provider's history leaves is the precedent this epic generalizes). A fourth consumer family — the Neural Link perspective tools — resolves stored records only and cannot see a declared perspective at all.

Why an epic. The shape spans an ADR amendment, the engine host, the model and persistence tiers, three consumers, the Neural Link tool trio across two repositories, and the guides — and the record's own rule (ADR 0029 §5: a leaf that contradicts a section amends the record first, in its own reviewed change) orders those leaves. No single PR can carry it, and the leaves are separable one-PR deliveries with their own falsifiers.

Intended solution shape

Four parts graduate together; two tiers stay deferred with named triggers. The depth — three divergence matrices, the convergence pass, twelve open questions with dispositions, twelve falsifiers, two receipts at one head — lives in D#18594's body.

  1. Selection — intent config with carried identity. perspectives (initial-only, captured once at construction like panes / zones; zones alone lowers under a reserved name) and activePerspective_, the accepted intent: an unknown name is refused by beforeSetEnumValue; an accepted name restores through the ordinary commit path; activePerspectiveChange fires; a binding may drive it and a user switch may write back. The committed identity is not the config: it travels with the accepted write's descriptor — {workspaceKey, before, after}, which the history row already retains — and replay transport hands the direction-appropriate name to project(context) on undo and redo. Refusal restores the last committed name under a request serial, never oldValue. Under a Group, a restore reconciles panes held by sibling participants: pull home, retire the vessel, or refuse — the leaf chooses and pins it.
  2. Committed truth as provider data, with two writers by boundary. dock.perspective.active and dock.perspective.modified publish from the accepted write at the post-commit publication point beside header truth; modified uses a declared modification predicate against the selected declared perspective's lowered document (a one-sided edge extent counts; resizable is excluded because nothing a user does writes it), and departure stays a separate fact from any unnamed-window count. dock.perspective.pending is written by the request lifecycle — start, supersede, refusal, settle — fenced by the request serial, because a held prepare never reaches the post-commit point. The workspace seeds its namespace as an object into whatever provider config it receives, so a consumer formula's first run registers the parent. Reset is its own verb: assigning the current name is a no-op, exactly as in tab.Container.
  3. Name sources — one declared list, snapshots beside it. Selection is declared-only at this stage; saved records are snapshots that may equal but never define a perspective; the reserved name is a write-boundary refusal on both persisted keys; the library's activeLayoutId becomes a consumer-owned pointer. Origin metadata follows the accepted-write identity, never the lagging published leaf: a declared-selection append takes its carried after-name, a known-origin hydrate takes the accepted snapshot's declared origin, an originless hydrate or a selection-free write retains the last committed / initialized declared baseline — a history row need not exist, since preserve writes return none while the projection context still carries the accepted descriptor. null never enters the enum.
  4. The boundary that stays plain. The six enableDock*Action opt-ins remain construction-time (the gate transfers the action's name), dockActionPolicy remains the runtime availability seam, and dockModel stays a field: the committed document's reactive hook fires inside adoption and on compensation, so publication belongs to the post-commit point, not to a config.

Deferred with triggers, not in this epic: the bound catalog (panes_ under a provider binding, with its queued policy/document/history admission), saved-name selection through the same config (returns with the reservation rule as its constraint), and the committed document as a provider leaf (returns when a consumer must derive its own facts from it, after measuring the deep-equal cost). A per-perspective pane-catalog override — an edge member pinned open in one perspective and auto-hidden in another — is a named trigger for the bound-catalog tier, not a shape this epic's perspectives can express: PerspectiveSelection#capture lowers every name with the same panes catalog, and the zones vocabulary carries no per-item override (surfaced by the Fleet Cockpit's Review preset, which declares a center column instead).

Leaf shape and order. Leaves are linked natively to this epic and own their acceptance criteria; the falsifiers F1–F12 from the Discussion are their arms. The ADR amendment lands first by the record's own rule; the selection, published-truth and name-source leaves follow; the consumer deletions (the Workstation one after the topology-bar reset lands, and after the Workstation declares its shipped arrangement — a slice of its own consumer epic), the Neural Link tool trio, the guides and the closure receipt close the set. The Demo B row of the deletion ledger is struck (2026-09-12): Demo B is not an engine Workspace host and its four switcher entries are tour-time captures — snapshots, which under E + F stay consumer code; F11's rendered receipt moves to the Workstation leaf. A static-helper reservation gap found in review is its own small leaf. Two standalone core tickets — the state.Provider formula gap on absent top-level keys, and a base-class field silently shadowing a subclass reactive config — are referenced, not nested.

Family of record: APPROVED.
  • gemini, kimi: no signal (benched — see Unresolved Liveness).
  • unknown (@neo-preview): active, no signal — see Unresolved Liveness.

Floor: two active families with signal, one non-author family APPROVED, no unresolved DEFERRED at the final anchor (DC_kwDODSospM4BGPTF, body revision 2026-09-12T13:44:51Z).

Unresolved Dissent

None at the final anchor. Three [GRADUATION_DEFERRED] signals were raised and each is STATUS: resolved-by-peer-reconciliation — DC_kwDODSospM4BGPRJ at DC_kwDODSospM4BGPR- (pending's request-lifecycle writer; the boot predicate as descriptor + cause; the unmeasured intermediate frame; the active no-signal family), DC_kwDODSospM4BGPRb at DC_kwDODSospM4BGPTh (the originless snapshot, U1), DC_kwDODSospM4BGPTF at DC_kwDODSospM4BGPTz (F12's retention wording; accepted-write identity without a history row).

Unresolved Liveness

  • gemini (@neo-gemini-pro): participationStatus: operator_benched; reactivationTrigger: the operator lifts the bench; STATUS: peer-owned liveness disposition — no signal is not consent.
  • kimi (@neo-kimi-phoebe, @neo-kimi-iris): benched; same trigger and status.
  • unknown (@neo-preview): modelFamily: 'unknown', participationStatus: 'active' in Brain ai/graph/identityRoots.mjs, no signal; STATUS: pending-peer-repoll.

This is architecture, not Tier-2 substrate: no revalidationTrigger acceptance criterion is carried.

Out of scope

  • The bound catalog tier (panes_ bound to a provider) and its queued policy/document/history contract.
  • Saved-name selection through the same config; the committed document as a provider leaf.
  • A reactive dockModel_; any reactivity for the six enableDock*Action opt-ins.
  • The Workstation's shipped-baseline readout ("left the shipped arrangement") — a consumer fact with its own baseline, not this epic's modified.

Avoided traps and rejected shapes

  • Command-plus-signals with no reactive property (the shipped status quo; perspectiveLoaded has zero consumers after a full release).
  • Selection as a reducer operation as the identity carrier (the descriptor is already retained; returns only if the accepted-write sequence cannot carry the before-name).
  • dockModel_ as the publication hook (fires inside adoption and on compensation).
  • Consumers observing the workspace's configs instead of published data (brings back the sweeps the header-state work deleted).
  • A nullable selection for originless snapshots (three special cases the retained baseline makes ordinary).
  • Reading oldValue on refusal; a silent _activePerspective write as the sync mechanism; modified folded from the planner's differ without its own predicate; pending derived from refreshPromise; provenance copied from the published leaf; a blanket underscore conversion of construction-time configs.
